Dr. Stefan Manegold (PhD, University of Amsterdam, 2002) is a senior researcher and head of the Database Architectures research group at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands.  His research work comprises database architectures, query processing algorithms, and data management technology for data-intensive scientific discovery, with a particular focus on optimization, scalability, performance, benchmarking and testing.  In the context of several national and international (EU) projects, Manegold develops new data management architectures and technologies to address Big Data challenges that arise in both business, industry and science.  Core aspects of his work and expertise are the efficient and effective use of modern heterogeneous hardware resources and automatic adaptivity to data- and workload characteristics.
