Dr. Erietta Liarou is currently a researcher at the Data-Intensive Applications and Systems lab of Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. Erietta’s primary research expertise includes database architectures on new hardware, big data-stream processing, distributed query processing, and data analytics with emphasis on very large data management. Erietta has co-authored the vision paper on data exploration that won the 2011 Challenges & Visions Best Paper Award in the International Conference on Very Large Databases as well as she has co-authored the original papers on gesture-based systems for data analytics. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2013. During her Ph.D. studies, Erietta was a researcher at the Database Architectures research group of the Dutch National Research Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI). She also worked for both the System S group in IBM T.J.Watson Research Center, Hawthorne, NY, USA and the Intelligent Systems Laboratory in Technical University of Crete, Greece. She received a Diploma and an M.S. degree in Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Crete, Greece, in 2004 and 2006 respectively.
