Stefan Manegold

Dr. Stefan Manegold is a senior researcher and head of the Database Architectures research group at CWI, leading a successful and productive team that currently consists of 1 CWI fellow, 3 tenured researchers, 1 tenure-tracker, 3 post-docs, 7 PhD students and 1 scientific programmer. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Amsterdam in 2002. His research work comprises database architectures, query processing algorithms, and data management technology for data-intensive scientific discovery, with a particular focus on optimization, scalability, performance, benchmarking and testing. Stefan Manegold has won the VLDB 2011 Challenges & Visions Track Best Paper Award (with co-authors Martin Kersten, Stratos Idreos and Erietta Liarou) as well as the VLDB 2009 10-year Best Paper Award (with co-authors Peter Boncz and Martin Kersten). Dr. Manegold has produced more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications as main author or major contributor with major international database journals and conferences. The latter have acceptance rates between 15% and 20%. His publications yield a total of more than 1600 citations (according to Google scholar ) and more than 19000 downloads from the ACM Digital Library .
